Artistic Producer - MARIE AND ROSETTA at Park Square Theatre

Very excited that Park Square Theatre is producing the regional premiere of Marie and Rosetta by George Brandt. Directed by Wendy Knox, the production features Jamecia Bennett as Rosetta Tharpe and Rajane Katurah Brown as Marie Knight. The show runs November 23-December 30, 2018.

Bringing fierce guitar playing and swing to gospel music, Sister Rosetta Tharpe influenced rock musicians from Elvis to Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles. The story begins in a funeral parlor in Mississippi, as Rosetta and her young protégé, Marie Knight, prepare for a tour that will establish them as a great musical duo. Hear renditions of spirituals like “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” and “Sit Down,” to distinctly non-religious songs like “I Want a Tall Skinny Papa.”

I was hired as the artistic director of Park Square Theatre in Saint Paul, MN. As artistic director he will oversee the programming and production of two spaces: a 350-seat proscenium theater, and the 200-seat Andy Boss Thrust Stage. www.parksquaretheatre.org.

SDCF Sir John Gielgud classical directing Fellowship

I was recently selected as SDCF’s 2017 Sir John Gielgud Fellow. I will be at Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival assisting Davis McCallum on Richard II and Suzanne Agins on The Heart of Robin Hood.

BLITHE SPIRIT at The Guthrie Theatre

Began assisting on Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward at The Guthrie Theatre this week.  The play is directed by David Ivers and runs November 25, 2017 - January 14, 2018.

It’s summertime in Kent and Charles Condomine is working on his latest novel, The Unseen. As part of his research he and his wife Ruth host a séance with an eccentric medium known as Madame Arcati and invite their friends to play along. But the evening takes a supernatural turn when Arcati conjures Charles’ deceased first wife, who doesn’t have plans to leave. Lighthearted and endearing, this otherworldly classic is sure to tickle your goosebumps!

Playwright John Kim hails from Brooklyn and army bases around the country. He got his start as a writer/actor in DC. He received his MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU. John has built tech products for companies like AOL, Conversagent, Microsoft, and Simple. He's currently Co-Founder of Presence AI, a company that builds AI for everyday businesses.
